Laissez les bons temps rouler!

When my friend Clayton and I started planning for our trip down to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, I looked at a map and realized how close the Abita brewery was to our course. I knew that t his was going to be a necessary stop.

Abita Beer

As we wove through the small town of Abita Springs, we were greeted with some small southern town friendly attitudes. Once we got to the brewery, we were a little worried, as there was a lot of construction going on. Apparently they are adding substantial size to their already huge facility. Progress is good.

We walked into the tap room just as the tour was going into the brewing area. Apparently, we had just missed the tour. But this was not the end. A nice guy came up to us and let us know we had just missed the tour, but to go ahead and pour ourselves a beer.

The way they do it there, is self-serve and free. Um is this Heaven?!

The Beers

I first poured the Hop Gator. Then I went with the Restoration Pale Ale. The restoration has a good flavor to it. I then tried the Golden and lastly the S.O.S. which was my favorite.

Overall

This experience was different from any of the other breweries I had visited. As usual, I talked with several brewery workers. They all were very open and easy to talk with. But it was such a rarity to just free pour their delicious offerings.

The tap room is gorgeous. It is well decorated and clean feeling

It was also fun to see the Mardi Gras decorations. The dry goods area has a great offering even with some 3XL items.

The drive is worth it. I strongly recommend taking the time to check this gem out.
